PPAMcon Background
Management Solutions (Qld) has been a pioneer in promoting the concept of greater private sector involvement in environment management. In 1994 Management Solutions in association with the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) Queensland Division held a national conference on Private Sector Involvement in Parks and Protected Area Management.
Following this conference Management Solutions (Qld) with University of Southern Queensland Press published National Parks: Private Sector’s Role to address the key issues that have been raised. This book has become essential reading for students of resource management, ecotourism and public administration. It has sold out two editions in Australia, New Zealand and overseas and has been favourably reviewed in a variety of professional and academic journals.
In 1996 Management Solutions (Qld) initiated the Best Practice Ecotourism National Conference held at Coolangatta-Tweed Heads with the support of Tweed Shire Council, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and Australian Paper.
Management Solutions (Qld)’s initiative in establishing the 1997 annual, national Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) conference further highlights our interest in environment management issues.
The sustained demand for the National Parks book, growing State and Commonwealth interest, and important overseas developments, clearly indicate the need for a conference to revisit, further explore and advance this issue.
PPAMcon will form the basis of a companion book that will include developments in the ensuing decade and a vision for future conservation and land management.
